POWER IN CHRIST -OR- THE TRANSFORMATION – New Life Bulletin

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His Calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.
“These are in accordance with the working of the strength of his might which  He brought about in Christ. ..far above all rule and authority and power and dominion…and He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him head over all things in to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” Eph. 1:18-23..
FACT: “I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” Gal. 2:20 Rom. 6:3-11
TRANSFORMATION: We are dead to sin.
FACT: “Therefore, if any man is in Christ he is a new creature; the old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 cor. 5:17.
TRANSFORMATION: “The love of Christ controls us.” 2 cor. 5:14.
FACT:”Since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on a new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created Him.”  Col. 3:9-10    TRANSFORMATION: “Be like Christ, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, patience, bearing one another and forgiving-beyond all these, put on love and let the peace of Christ rule your hearts and let the word of Christ dwell in your richly.” See Col. 3:1-17.

FACT: “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power He has even to subject all things to Himself.” Phil. 3:20,21.
TRANSFORMATION: The ultimate transformation is when the mortal puts on the immoral.  I Cor.15:42ff

These scripture are centered around the power of Christ and the Transformation of the believer.  The questions I want to focus on are these:  Were we aware of the transformation that took place when we put on Christ? If we were aware of this, then were we also aware of the power that we have through Christ? And finally, if the answer is no, how can we know the  power of God?
How do we internalize this power? Perhaps a  review of the scriptural  promise for power found in these verses will help. Norman Vincent Peale might suggest that we use the power of positive thinking and visualize ourselves  receiving the power that is ours! In other words, act like we have it helps us to find it.

“If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, ask what you wish and it shall be done for you. “John 15:7″.

“Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that work within us”…Eph. 3:20.  Not only is He able to do all we ask or think, but beyond all that we ask or think. Not only beyond all, but abundantly beyond all. Not only abundantly beyond all, but exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think. Try to process that.
“And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good, and acceptable, and perfect.” Romans 12:2.
How  can we possibly do this without believing the strength and power available thru Christ?

Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.  For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. “2 Peter 1:3,4

“…that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power thru His spirit in the inner man. “Eph. 3:16. “ .
“…so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God: strengthened with all power according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness… “Col. 1:11.
“ And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for ever good deed. “ 2 Cor. 9:8.

“He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power.  Though youths grow weary and tired, And Vigorous young men stumble badly.  Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. “Is. 40:29

NOTE: Joanne selected this article from the archives of old articles I’d written about 40 years ago. I almost never reuse something that old. In fact, I don’t remember writing it, and my name was not at the end. However, scripture does speak to us about the relationship we have in Christ. I hope the above verses speak to you and that I have used them in a context which is appropriate.
